Housing minister Grant Shapps happily tweeted the news that Thames Valley Housing (TVH) association has published its quarterly £500+ spending report.

Shapps tweeted: "Drive towards Housing Association transparency unstoppable as Thames Valley joins £500+ expenditure publishing online."

However, TVH's report only reveals details about amounts and where the money went. It does not entail what products or services the money was actually spent on.

Mr Shapps is keen for housing associations to show greater transparency and has encouraged the publication of spending data.

Hyde, Sanctuary, Home Group, Viridian, Bromford and Hereford Housing are also committed to publishing their £500+ expenditure.

Adactus has gone a step further and has pledged to publish all spending over £99.99

Some critics have claimed that publishing spending data is a feeble way to gauge a landlord's value for money, as residents have nothing to compare it to.
