A St Helens mum-of-three is cutting it as a successful business woman after opening her own hairdressing salon with a little help from her landlord Helena Partnerships.

Kerrie Tarpey, 35, was struggling to realise her ambition of training as a hairdresser due to the financial and time pressures of raising her family until she approached Helena’s Developing Active Neighbourhoods (DAN) team for support in 2010.

Working in partnership with the National Careers Service, the DAN team supported Kerrie to develop an action plan and provided funds towards her hairdressing kit and training course.  Two years later, she has opened her own hairdressing salon after undertaking training in St Helens and London.

Kerry said: “I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser so I’m loving every minute of running my own salon and being independent.

“I’m really grateful to Helena for all their help and support and honestly believe that without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Mark Jory, DAN Regeneration Manager at Helena, said: “Kerrie is living proof that anybody can make their dreams come true if they’re prepared to work hard enough.

“Helena was able to provide the advice and funding required helping her get started on the career ladder and she’s gone from strength to strength from there.

“Kerrie is an inspiration to all of us and should be very proud of what she has achieved.”
