Show Flat Launched Providing Ground Breaking New Homes For Older People

A contemporary show flat located in Stifford Clays, Grays, Thurrock, is to become the show piece of a stunning extra care housing estate which is being developed by Hanover Housing Association to boost housing choices for older people in Thurrock.
The show flat which opens to the public on 15 August is part of a £8.6 million development called Elizabeth Gardens. When completed in January 2013 it will have 18 one-bedroom and 47 two-bedroom self – contained apartments of which up to 18 will be available for purchase on 75 per cent shared ownership.
Residents of the new development will have access to a range of services including: a restaurant, hair and beauty salon, estate manager service, a guest room and a 24-hour on-site care team.
The estate is designed to incorporate the latest in energy efficiency with solar panels and heat reclamation units fitted throughout. Each apartment will have a modern fitted kitchen, a stylish shower room and spacious lounge. An integral emergency response alarm is fitted throughout with the option of assisted technologies.
Hanover Director, Claire Anderson said: “Hanover is delighted to have been selected by Thurrock Council as the preferred provider for this stunning new Extra Care Scheme.
“We will be working closely with the council to ensure the new building delivers a fantastic array of services and facilities which will benefit older people in Thurrock.”
Cllr Barbara Rice, the council’s portfolio holder for adult social care, added: “This development is on the site of a former residential home, yet the services it will offer are beyond comparison.
“It is the embodiment of Thurrock Council’s Building Positive Futures programme – creating an environment where older people can live fully independent lives in a place of safety and security.”
The starting price for new apartment’s will be £127,500 on a 75% shared ownership basis.
