In the midst of the summer holidays, over 170 residents young and old from King’s Heath, Digby have joined together for a day of celebration and education.
A day of ‘summer fun’ took place on Coburg Green in Digby on Thursday 16th August, with an event organised by Sovereign Housing Association with support from Spectrum Signpost Housing Association and Devon & Cornwall Constabulary. Spectrum Signpost manages a total of 80 properties at King’s Heath, a mixture of rented and shared ownership house and flats.
“Kings Heath is a thriving community, and Spectrum Signpost are very pleased to support events like this” said Lisa Elford, Resident Involvement Officer at Spectrum Signpost. “Today’s event has promoted a strong community spirit, and has provided lots of opportunities for residents to become involved.”
A huge array of fun – and free – activities were on offer on the day, including face painting, a bouncy castle, a visit from Vinnie The Clown, and the opportunity for children to sit in a police riot van and have their fingers printed. All activities were provided free of charge, due to donations from the three organisers.
The local fire service was also on hand to provide helpful advice about fire prevention, and local children were encouraged to take part in litter-picking throughout the afternoon, with each bag of litter being exchanged for a bag of sweets.
“This was a very successful follow-on from last year’s event, and it has been great to interact with the community here at King’s Heath”, adds Lisa. “We invited all of our residents to today’s event and also encouraged a number of groups in the local community to join in, so it’s been a terrific day for bringing the community together.”
