New facilities for school thanks to Kier

Pupils and staff at Sandon Primary School in Meir will be returning to improved facilities at the school following the summer break.  Thanks to Kier Stoke, the school will have improved classrooms along with additional internal alterations to a value of £345,000.

The improvements include the refurbishments of classrooms, adjoining corridors, pupils’ toilets, hallway and kitchen areas of the school.  The internal alterations will take place over the school summer holidays to ensure work can be completed without disrupting lessons.

Kier Stoke site supervisor, Wayne Lymer, said: “Following the completion, the school will look fresh and clean ready for the new school year. We are over-cladding the classrooms and corridors to increase the energy efficiency as it will allow the rooms to heat up quickly and maintain the heat.  The over-cladding will then be decorated to brighten up the spaces. Through careful planning we’ve been able to time the works to be completed while the children and teachers are on holiday to ensure minimum disruption.”

Sandon Primary School head teacher, Rachael Beckett, said: “Our existing facilities were in need of modernisation so we are delighted to be commencing a new school year with a fresh start ready to welcome our pupils old and new.”
