Inspired by the Olympic spirit, staff from Dale & Valley Homes organised their own sports day to raise money for a local charity.
The company returned to the playground to re-create a school sports day with classic events such as the three-legged race and the slow bicycle race.
A barbecue, circuit training class and other events added to the fundraising total of just over £300, which will be donated to Tabitha’s Toys, a charity which helps severely disabled children.
Chief executive Peter Chaffer said: “Everyone had a good time and re-lived some moments from their childhood. We don’t have Bradley Wiggins or Chris Hoy, but we do have some people who join in and make things a success, regardless of winning or losing.
“It is good to see people joining in and enjoying themselves – it is good for morale and good for everyone’s fitness levels.
“Best of all it will help children with severe handicaps to get more out of life.
“We have to thank Get Active, which provided all the equipment, and Northumbrian Water, who supplied bottled water to keep everyone going. Without their support, which they offer to all kinds of organisations, we could not have organised so much.”
