Healthy-living advice was on offer for City West Housing Trust customers last week at a host of support sessions in West Salfordled by the housing association’s Independent Living Service.

The free events, which took place from Tuesday to Friday last week in Eccles, Swinton, Irlam and Little Hulton, showed City West customers the variety of health advice and support available from the housing association and partners.

Money advice, free starter plants for community allotments, healthy recipes, advice on how to save on energy bills and CV tips were just some of the variety of services on offer.

Staff from Salford City Council’s Health Improvement Team were also on hand to provide useful information on healthy eating, children’s health, exercise and advice meetings available.

David Cummins, Director of Neighbourhoods and Communities for City West, said: “The health and wellbeing of our customers is really important to us – that’s why our Independent Living Service hosted the healthy living events last week across West Salford. We understand that as part of our drive to create sustainable communities where people want to live, we need to empower our customers to improve their health and wellbeing and overall quality of life.”

City West’s communities team were out in force at the events to encourage people to get involved in community garden projects in their local areas and to grow their own produce by giving away a free starter plant and recipe card.

The events also offered free help to stop smoking from a local smoking cessation worker, money advice to help customers manage their budgets, CV tips from recruitment agency Pertemps and energy saving advice.

If you missed the events and want to book a free energy advice home visit, City West customers can call Jonathan Newton, Energy and Sustainability Advisor on 0161 605 7649.

City West’s Independent Living Service, was set-up last year and offers a range of help and support in order to make it easier for vulnerable or elderly people to live at home for as long as possible.
