Help to the rescue as generations join forces

Eight young people from the local youth club have joined forces with the residents of Cross Keys Homes’ Norburn High sheltered scheme in Bretton to revamp the scheme’s garden furniture. This is a partnership between Cross Keys Homes and Peterborough City Council 8-19 service.
The garden furniture has withstood a number of years’ onslaught from the vagaries of the weather. However, the benches and tables are unable to see another season through, especially following the two month deluge that we have all experienced in the East Midlands.
So volunteers from the local youth club have rallied round to sand and stain with the residents and spruce up the tired furniture.
Helen Hutchinson, Young People and Families Manager, Cross Keys Homes, said: “It’s delightful to have our young visitors and to receive their help. We hope it’s the start of a continued friendship. Too often generations are divided and really communities should develop ways of bringing them together rather than dividing them.”
