A £25 million investment is backing a large development plan for Wolverhampton that features 1,300 new homes.

One of the first cities to become a Portas Pilot, Wolverhampton's City Centre Prospectus also includes a new park, shops, family leisure facilities and offices.

The prospectus's strategic director Charles Green pitched the plan to an audience of developers, agents, landowners and businesses at the Molineux Stadium.

Mr Green said: “The revitalisation of our city centre is a top priority though the biggest challenge in the current economic climate is making it happen.

"That is why we have been at pains to ensure the prospectus ticks all the boxes for investors.

“The vision has been shaped with the direct input of developers. In an engagement with them over the past 18 months, we have been open to their ideas and flexible in our response.”

The prospectus claims that 'Canalside' can provide 1,300 new homes, equivalent to 44 percent of the city’s target for new housing.

Development of three sites in the city centre gateway has delivered 300 homes and 600 student bed spaces.
