Planting Project
Year 6 students from the Mirus Academy in Walsall joined forces with Beechdale Community Housing (Beechdale) to brighten up the bungalows in Edison Road.
As part of the Big Tidy Up campaign, the project carried out over two weeks got students involved in designing the flowerbeds, contractors Morrison and Vale generously supplied the materials and everyone mucked in in the building the raised beds and planting.
Week one – Children held a litter pick, weeded the area and helped to construct the flowerbeds and filled them with soil.
Week two – The flowerbeds were planted using three different designs.
John Holloway, Beechdale’s neighbourhood impact assistant said, “It was rewarding to get involved with the youngsters from the Mirus Academy. It was a great community project and all the residents love their new flowerbeds”.
We spoke to our residents in Edison Road and they thought it was a good idea. A celebration event was held with the residents, children and contractors to say thank you for their hard work.
