South Tyneside Homes Help Out the Summer Festival

Big name musical acts Scouting for Girls, The Feeling and Matt Cardle, are all heading to the North East this July as one of the UK’s biggest free events sets up home in a seafront park.  

The South Tyneside Summer Festival, organised annually by South Tyneside Council, is taking over Bents Park, South Shields for three consecutive Sunday concerts, each expected to attract more than 10,000 fans.

The concerts, headlined by X Factor winner Matt Cardle (July 22) and top pop bands Scouting for Girls (July 15) and The Feeling (July 29), are being supported by property management company South Tyneside Homes, whose apprentice electricians are connecting power to the open-air stage for the third consecutive year.

Mark Whittle, Director of South Tyneside Homes says, “The South Tyneside Summer Festival is an amazing event for South Tyneside and the wider North East, with the Sunday concerts in particular giving our apprentices a unique and memorable opportunity to hone their skills behind the scenes. We are very proud to be supporting this great annual event.”

The Bents Park concerts, which will also feature a supporting line up of up-and-coming and regional acts, form part of the South Tyneside Summer Festival’s three-month programme of live music and family-style events, which are running across South Shields until the end of August.

Other musical highlights in July include a series of brass band concerts at the town’s seafront Amphitheatre every Sunday from 2pm until 4pm, Saturday performances at the bandstand in South Marine Park and a special concert marking the end of Westoe Brass Band’s centenary year, which will be held at the bandstand on Tuesday, July 10.

Events for all ages will also be held throughout the month, including a carnival-style parade through South Shields and a family fayre on Saturday, July 7, a Festival Funday featuring Zumba, chainsaw woodcarving and a classic car display on Sunday, July 8 and a series of weekly parties for young people aged 15 years and under beginning July 31.

Cllr Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, which organises the South Tyneside Summer Festival said: “July is one of the busiest times in South Tyneside Summer Festival’s three month schedule and, thanks to support from companies like South Tyneside Homes, this year’s event offers an exciting line up of big name acts, regional talent and family-focussed activities to keep visitors entertained for free throughout the entire 31 days”.
