Staff from Sefton’s One Vision Housing recently took part in a Diversity Week where they experienced firsthand the barriers those with a disability may face.
Earlier in the year, staff had fed back that they wanted to learn about diversity issues in a fun and interactive way.
With this in mind, two lunches were organised where staff were given ‘props’ to simulate various disabilities including different visual and hearing impairments, loss of limbs and arthritis.
Policy, Planning and Improvement Manager Cara McCullough said: “It is important that we are committed to improving equality and diversity. Over 70 members of staff took part different events and the week will serve as a great foundation for the Culture Awareness training we have planned for later in the year.”
One Vision’s Diversity Week also included a focus on their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) tenants and included a talk from the Chair of the LGBT network.
