Known as ‘the greatest adventure in the world’, the Mongolian Rally is a six week charity run event whereby teams travel over 10,000 miles of some of the most remote and hostile terrains in the world to cross the finish line.
The Mongolian Rally was set up in 2004 with a majority of the proceeds made from the rally going towards good causes. So far the Mongolian Rally has raised over 3.7million for charity.
This year they will be supporting the Lotus Children’s Centre Charitable trust, a Mongolian based charity, who work with vulnerable children and families to provide shelter, food and education.
Under the name ‘The Team of Choice’, the two intrepid explorers will be setting off from Goodway Raceway on Friday 13th July. From there, the route they have chosen will take them through France, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and finally into Mongolia.
As the Rally rules stipulate that cars must be ‘a car not totally up to the task’,
Daniel and David will be travelling a third of the way around the world in the nine year old 1.3 litre Ford Ka.
They are aiming to raise significant funds for their chosen charity, Choice Support, a major partner of Progress Housing Group’s care arm Progress Care Housing Association.
Choice Support is a leading social care charity that supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs, physical disabilities and people experiencing homelessness. Their aim is to enable the people that they support to take control of their lives and live the way that they choose.
With the current changes to the welfare system organisations such as Choice Support are increasingly called upon to help some of the most vulnerable in society.
Alan Johnson, Managing Director of Progress Care Housing Association, said: “This is a fantastic adventure to raise money and awareness for people with learning disabilities giving them the opportunities in life that aren’t always available to them.”
