There was a great night of enjoyment, excitement and entertainment in Stockport recently, when Equity Housing Group organised a talent night involving sheltered housing residents and staff.
Over 60 people attended the event, which took place at one of the local sheltered housing schemes and featured singers, dancing, poetry reading and comedy.
With great prize money on offer to the winners, competition was fierce. Sadly Simon Cowell and Michael McIntyre were unavailable on the night, so it was left to staff from Equity and local resident Alfred Flynn to act as judges. Alfred has many years of experience in the entertainment industry having previously enjoyed a successful singing career.
As well as the competition, the evening featured 4 professional acts who performed songs from Roy Orbison, Billy Fury and George Formby amongst others.
Joint winners on the night were Helen Giles fromRunnymede Courtwho sang medley of war time favourites in her own original style and Mary McCardle fromClifford Court who treated the audience to a humorous monologue.
The event didn’t just bring people together for a great night, it also raised money for Age UK and Barnardo’s.
Equity’s Head of Older Persons, Eunice Taylor said; “It’s fantastic that residents and Equity staff can come together like this, have fun and raise money for a great cause. We’ve enjoyed it so much that we’re already talking about organising a pantomime for Christmas.”
