Mears Group has been named as a supportive employer by SaBRE the organisation that supports Britain's Reservists and Employers.

Captain Ian Mavin from Whickham who works for Mears as a Regional Safety Health and Environmental Manager has also been a member of the TA since May 1980 when he joined 103 Field Squadron Royal Engineers (V) in Newcastle.

During his 32 years of service he has attended major exercises in Germany, Belgium and the USA.  Ian who recently took part in a Uniform to Work Day to raise awareness of Reservists in the community and workplace said;.

“Supportive employers such as Mears are more vital than ever to enable the Reservist to fulfil their role and to help meet our future defence requirements.

Mark Elkington Group Director for Safety Health and Environment accepted a Supportive Employers Certificate on behalf of the Mears Group from Colonel Charlton of SaBRE, the organisation that supports Britain's Reservists and Employers.  Mark stated “with over 13,000 staff Mears employ a number of Reservists. We fully support their role in the Armed Forces and acknowledge the additional skills they can bring to the workplace".
