Lewisham Homes and their contractors, Breyer group and MITIE plc, have reached a major milestone in their Major Works programme completing works to over 1000 properties.

Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock visited Margaret in her home to look first hand at the refurbishments. Sir Steve commented “They say an Englishman’s home is his castle. We might not have any castles in Lewisham, but people living in social housing certainly want their homes to be warm, comfortable and modern. Lewisham Homes is in the middle of a major programme to upgrade council homes across the borough, giving tenants modern and up to date facilities, making sure that people have decent homes that they can be proud of and happy to live in. It was a pleasure to meet Mrs Martin in her home and see the improvements made there.”

Lewisham Homes’ resident Margaret Martin of Hillcrest Estate, celebrated with the Mayor of Lewisham after her home was the 1000th property to receive decent homes work. Mrs Martins’ home improvements included new kitchen, bathroom, decorations and front door.

Margaret said, “I’m so pleased with my new kitchen and bathroom. It’s made a massive difference to my home and I could not fault the service that I received”.

The Major Works programme started on site last year after Lewisham Homes was provisionally allocated £94.5 million for decent homes improvements from the Government in November 2010. Properties in Forest Hill, Lee, Honor Oak, Deptford and Telegraph Hill. will benefit from works in 2012/2013.
