Hollinwood residents enjoying the Jubilee celebrations
Staff from Contour Homes and over two thousand residents of Hollinwood and beyond turned out for a Jubilee Extravaganza fun day last Saturday at Limeside Park, Oldham.
The Jubilee event was organised by Sarah Furbey Contour Homes’ Community Development Worker and Secretary of Limeside Friends of the Park along with St Margaret’s Church. It was made possible thanks to funding from Contour Homes; Oldham Council, the Big Lottery Fund, St Margaret’s Church and local schools including: St Margaret’s, Oasis Limeside, Oasis Oldham, Limehurst, Lyndhurst and Holy Family.
The Hollinwood Jubilee Extravaganza got underway with a morning celebratory service at St Margaret’s Church, followed by a procession through the streets of Hollinwood towards Limeside Park, Oldham for the main event.
There was plenty of entertainment throughout the afternoon for all the family in the park; live music was provided by local bands Biscuitface and the Jackson Kay Band and there was a mini farm, reptiles, fair rides and stalls to explore. Crowds gathered in the marquee which was lined with street party tables and awash with red, white and blue to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's coronation.
Sarah Furbey, Contour Homes Community Development Worker said: “It was a fantastic day and we were fortunate that the rain kept away. It was a special occasion when everyone is proud to be British and there was a great community spirit in Hollinwood. We really celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style!”
There were fundraising opportunities throughout the day including two local residents who sat in a custard bath all afternoon. At the end of the day, even Sarah was persuaded to try the bath and got covered with custard!
