Crown Paints reveals a Union Jack mural in its Lancashire hometown Darwen to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee Crown Paints reveals a Union Jack mural in its Lancashire hometown Darwen to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee

Crown Paints has used the power of colour to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The company has commissioned its own eye-catching painted Union Jack, on the side of a terraced house near its headquarters in Darwen, Lancashire.

Specially-selected shades were created for the project, using Sandtex Trade High Cover Smooth, to make a stunning display in the community.

Kathryn Lloyd, of Crown Paints Colour Service, developed the scheme, which features on-trend pastel shades, from the Crown Paints Colour Influences Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Kathryn said: “Colour is our passion, itinforms and drives everything we do, so we are delighted to be able to unveil this mural to mark a landmark event.”

The flag’s palette is inspired by Crown Paints Colour Influence ‘Modern Nostalgia,’ which offers a sophisticated take on pastels, based on a vintage theme.

‘Modern Nostalgia,’ was one of four colour influences unveiled last year, as a distinctive look in the Crown Paints Colour Influences Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

These four trends were developed by the Crown Paints Colour Influences panel, a team of distinguished thinkers and stylists who forecast colour trends annually.

Kathryn added: “Modern Nostalgia takes its inspiration from the traditional feel of the 1950s, the time when the Queen came to the throne, so it was a really apt choice for the mural.”

Crown Paints’ Colour Service is designed to help specifiers get the best from colour for their projects.

Vernon Kinrade, Crown Paints Specification Manager, said: “We are delighted with the mural and the colours work beautifully.

“Crown Paints’ systems for specifiers, namely our Crown Trade interior range and Sadolin woodcare and Sandtex Trade exterior solutions, deliver the necessary performance and durability characteristics for a wide range of environments, with a broad selection of colour choices and textures.

“Although colour is a personal choice, professional help can pay dividends to create an inspired environment and our Colour Service can help specifiers get the best aesthetic and performance solution for their project.”
