Residents and staff at Queensridge Court in Oldbury welcomed a visit by the
Rt. Hon. John Spellar, on Friday. The visit, which was organised by Housing 21, gave the local MP an opportunity to view the facilities and meet with service users of the 87 apartment scheme which opened in 2010.

Queensridge Court provides independent living in an extra care setting, so residents benefit from 24 hour on-site care and support, if needed. The one and two bedroom apartments provide homes to rent or purchase on a shared ownership basis and have been built to meet the requirements of older people.

Mr Spellar was able to visit the on-site facilities which include a shop ran by members of the residents’ association, a hairdressing salon, restaurant, library, healthcare room, two assisted bathrooms and an assisted kitchen. The scheme also has a conservatory, court yard garden and dementia unit

Commenting on his visit, Warley MP John Spellar said: “I was very pleased to visit Queensridge Court, a welcome new facility for our senior citizens.  I was particularly glad that so many came from the local neighbourhood and were able to stay close to family and friends and the friendly communal atmosphere.”

Tracey Grego, locality manager for Housing 21 added: “We’re delighted that
Mr Spellar has been able to visit Queensridge Court and meet with staff and residents. We are very proud of this development, which is rapidly growing into a valuable resource for members of the local community who access the services as well as the older people who live here.”

Queensridge Court is the first of two new Housing 21extra care schemes to be developed in Sandwell. A second scheme, Goldfield Court in West Bromwich, is due to complete next month.
