whg’s Brian figures on a missionary trip to Africa
Brian Smartt, of whg’s Finance Team, prepares to visit three countries on the African continent.
A finance whizz from whg will travel more than 5,000 miles to the African continent to share budgeting advice with locals.
Brian Smartt, of Walsall, will set off on 15th March for the expedition to Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The Assistant Development Accountant will be joined on the 18-day mission by the pastor from the church he attends, Calvary Apostolic Assembly in Hockley.
The trip will involve numbers-man Brian teaching local people how to budget and manage their money to make ends meet. He and Rev Jeniva Mpofu will also deliver Biblical teaching and carry out preparatory work ahead of setting up an orphanage in Botswana.
This will not be the first time Brian has left home soil to share his twin passions of finance and faith with others. He took a similar trip to the Caribbean in September and said the experience had inspired him to do more of the same.
He said: “I am very much looking forward to my forthcoming trip. I have a passion for helping people and making a difference by passing on my skills and sharing my faith - I believe in giving back.
“My time in Africa will no doubt be educational and character-building for me. I will face new challenges and learn what life is like for people living in the three countries we visit. I look forward to the experience and hope I can be of help to those I meet.”
Brian’s colleagues are impressed by his globe-trotting gestures of goodwill. Harjinder Toor, Treasury Finance Manager, said: “It is commendable that Brian is using his holiday to both educationally and spiritually provide assistance to people who will really benefit from his input. We wish him well for his imminent trip.”
