Kier North Tyneside staff are setting their sights on management thanks to a unique training course run by the company for its employees across the north of England. With 63 per cent of staff coming fromNorth Tyneside, Kier understands the importance of employees developing and learning new skills for their own progression and for the benefit of the company’s customers.
The training, which lasts nine months, is helping employees to develop skills in order to offer a better, more streamlined service to customers while carrying out repairs and maintenance services to around 16,000 social housing properties on behalf of North Tyneside Council.
The ‘aspiring managers’ course gives people across the business the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as part of a nationwide development programme run by Kier. It enables trainees to gain an insight into wider leadership qualities, share experiences and develop skills to aid their career progression.
Team leader Neil Watson, one of 14 employees enrolled on the training course, said: “The course has helped me to understand the qualities of a strong and efficient manager and learn how to implement them in my job. This has helped me to take on increased responsibilities and taught me how to effectively delegate allowing me more time to focus on management and ever increasing the excellent service we provide to customers.”
KierNorth Tynesidedirector, Mike Furze, said: “This course has been designed to give staff a more rounded understanding of business and the wider implications of management. By using the skills of all our team members on the course and providing an opportunity for them to voice any problems or queries, the aspiring managers are able to share experiences and best practice across different departments within our business.
“At Kier we are strongly committed to the training and development of our staff in order to provide the best possible service to our customers.”
