Van-tastic!
It’s certainly not your average prize but these young people didn’t seem to mind when they won a competition to have their names emblazoned on a white van.
One Vision Housing is running their ‘name the van’ competition all year and is looking to acknowledge people who are making a difference to people’s lives in their communities.
Stevie Thomas, 8, from Maghull was the first winner after receiving numerous nominations from friends, parents and school staff. Stevie regularly fundraises for Zoe’s Place Hospice and Alder Hey Hospital as his three year old sister has Cystic Hygroma. Stevie even organised a 10 mile bike ride for Children in Need resulting in the real Pudsey Bear came to his school.
There will also be a van named after Joanne Lee, 16, from Bootle after she was recognised for her work in the community. Joanne has been an active voluntary member of the Making A Difference (MAD) group for three years, making sure that young people who have experience of the care system are involved in the decisions that will affect their lives.
One Vision Housing Community Engagement Officer Marie Morgan said: “With our fleet of vehicles attending to over 11,700 homes across Sefton, what better place to be promote the good work of young people in your community that on the front of one of our vans?! Our first set of winners are perfect examples of what we are looking for.”
Thoughout 2012, One Vision will be picking out winners every month whose names will feature on the front of one of their vans.
