Developer Kier Partnership Homes has struck a deal with the Homes and Communities Agency and Derby City Council for a 700-home regeneration project.
The redevelopment of the former hospital at the Manor & Kingsway site in Derby is expected to be worth £100m over 10 years and will include a “range” of affordable homes to buy or rent.
Kier has teamed up with house builder Taylor Wimpey and affordable housing provider Nottingham Community Housing Association to create the new neighbourhood, along with a business park expected to support the creation of 450 new jobs.
Commenting on the selection of Kier Partnership Homes, managing director Chris King stated: “We are delighted to have been chosen by the HCA and Derby City Council to be the developer partner for this priority strategic development opportunity.
"Working closely with our partners and other local stakeholders we aim to create a vibrant and sustainable community-centred new neighbourhood, which will enhance the lives of the residents and visitors alike.
“We are very keen to encourage economic, environmental and social sustainability and the enhancement of the green infrastructure, including maximising its potential as a recreation, amenity and biodiversity resource, will create opportunities for employment linked to leisure, commercial and retail uses too.”
Taylor Wimpey East Midlands managing director, Dominic Harman, commented: “This is a very exciting project for us and we look forward to working in partnership with Kier, the HCA and Derby City Council on what we believe will be a very important redevelopment, which will provide much needed new homes and employment opportunities for the people of Derby.”
Work is expected to start on site in the autumn.
