Kier Sheffield is celebrating after winning the prestigious Excellence in Customer Service Award at the Sheffield Business Awards. The accolade recognises the company’s commitment to outstanding, high quality standards of customer service, which include keeping to 98 per cent of agreed appointment times within a two-hour window and achieving 99.2 per cent positive feedback for ensuring employees are polite and courteous to customers at all times.

The award, presented to Kier at the ceremony at Ponds Forge on 19 January, celebrated the work carried out when providing repairs and maintenance services to around 42,000 council-owned properties across the city.

Reflecting Kier’s commitment to high standards of customer care, the company has developed an innovative ‘rideout’ programme where customers spend time with a member of the Kier team, review standards of customer interface and provide feedback on areas for improvement.

Kier regional managing director for maintenance, Simon Bullen, said: “We believe our progress and achievements over the past year show we are committed to customer care and that we demonstrate an innovative approach. We are a people business providing key services to the people ofSheffield. This commitment has been confirmed by our success at the Sheffield Business Awards and I am extremely proud of our team which has worked so hard to achieve such a high quality result.”

Customer involvement in service planning and delivery has always been key to Kier Sheffield’s approach. Over the past 12 months the company has continued to work closely with customers to shape the way it delivers services to residents and ensure continuous improvement.

Tenant representative, Tony Shaw, said: “I have always been very impressed by Kier’s policy of involving customers in consultation. It is an excellent company that has customer care at the very core of its strategy.”

As a socially responsible organisation Kier is also committed to supporting the local economy with 97 per cent of its direct workforce living within aSheffieldpostcode. Kier Sheffield is passionate about supporting young people, disadvantaged groups and individuals, and recruited 17 new apprentices across a variety of trades in the last 12 months taking its total to 62.

Sheffield Homes' assistant director for business development, Simon Richards, said, "Sheffield Homes is delighted that one of our key partners, Kier Sheffield, has achieved this well deserved award for excellent customer services. We work very closely with Kier to make sure all our customers continue to receive the highest quality services. This award is recognition of just how successful we have been."

The Sheffield Business Awards, organised by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, recognise excellent work carried out by companies from across the city in categories spanning a number of trades and industries.
