Homeless families received a welcome boost when volunteers organised by employment agency, Adecco and Stockport Homes carried out a ‘60 minute makeover’ at a temporary accommodation scheme for homeless families.
Those living at the scheme were overjoyed with the results and got involved themselves, learning some new skills for when they are ready to move on to their new homes.
In the run up to the 60 minute event, a large group of volunteers spent the week working at the scheme having fun whilst doing their bit for the community – such as painting, cleaning up, catering, tidying the garden and making winter hanging baskets.
As well as having a great time their hard work has helped to make the scheme even more welcoming place for families who find themselves homeless, especially important as we approach Christmas.
Martyn Preston, Employment Support and Volunteering Officer said: “The volunteers have really spruced up the scheme and it is a much brighter, friendlier place. The volunteers have also learnt new decorating and gardening skills, as well as getting a lot of enjoyment out of the week.”
Over 100 people have registered an interest in volunteering with Stockport Homes and if you would like more information on the many opportunities available please contact Martyn Preston, Employment Support and Volunteering Officer on 0161 474 2836 for more information.
