North West housing provider The Regenda Group has been awarded a score of 43%, the equivalent of a bronze award, by the Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow (SHIFT), which provides an independent benchmark of the environmental sustainability of an organisation.

Sarah Thomas, Regenda’s Environmental Officer explained, “We’ve been striving to improve the sustainability of everything that we do as an organisation, looking at every area to see where we can make changes.  This can be either by changing the way that we communicate with residents, monitoring the carbon emissions at our offices or carrying out risk assessments on the possibility of extreme whether and finding ways to mitigate the effects on our housing stock.”

The SHIFT report has also highlighted areas which Regenda can review in the future.  Chris Dale, Head of Property Services at Regenda added, “We’re delighted to have achieved this level of success, particularly as we have performed better than other housing associations of a comparable size.  Our Environmental Group has worked very hard and the members are keen to continue to make improvements wherever possible.  Our target is now to achieve the equivalent of silver standard.”

The Sustainable Homes Index For Tomorrow (SHIFT) was developed with the support of, and continues to be steered by, the Tenant Services Authority (TSA), UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) and WWF-UK.  For more information visit the SHIFT website at http://www.sustainablehomes.co.uk/sustainablehomesindex.aspx
