Young and old enjoyed the bulb planting at Royles Court
Children from Royles Brook Primary School’s gardening club took part in a day of bulb planting with residents of the Royles Court sheltered scheme in Thornton, Lancashire.
By the end of the morning the grass around the flats had been filled with 6000 daffodil and crocus bulbs to provide a riot of colour in the spring.
A team of helpers from Wyre Council’s environmental department, a Probation Community Payback team, staff from Distinctive Gardens, Regenda’s caretakers and staff worked with Royles Court residents to prepare the site by removing the grass, which was replaced when the planting was completed.
Kim Taylor, neighbourhood officer at Regenda explained, “I suggested the idea to the residents at Royles Court and they were delighted. They were really keen to get involved with their local school. We’re all now looking forward to the new year when the bulbs should brighten up the gardens in time for spring.”
The bulb planting was organised and funded by Regenda and other inter-generational projects are now being considered which could involve members of the scheme visiting the school to take part in gardening, cooking and storytelling.
The children will return to the site in the spring to see the flowers in bloom.
Regenda works with communities to build a sustainable future.
