Funding success for supported housing scheme.

A new supported housing scheme for young people could soon be delivered in the district.

West Lindsey District Council, in partnership with Axiom Housing Association has successfully bid for £288,000 for the project.  It was just one of 38 successful bids in the county to receive funding from the Home and Communities Agency’s Homelessness Change Programme.

Housing Renewal and Community Safety Service Manager at the council, Grant Lockett, explained the bid was developed as part of the Central Lincolnshire Local Investment Plan.

He said “We are delighted to have been successful in our bid to the HCA and to have the opportunity to deliver a new supported housing scheme for young people in Gainsborough.

“We know from our work in the local area that there is a real need for this type of accommodation and we look forward to developing our partnership with Axiom to meet this need”

The funding will go towards delivering a supported accommodation scheme of 12 units in Gainsborough for young people.

The project is an extension to the highly successful young persons supported housing project at The Foyer in Market Rasen, which is also managed by Axiom Housing Association. The 20 bed project has been in operation since 1995.

Alan Lewin, Axiom Chief Executive, said:

“We are delighted that our application for funding for Gainsborough Foyer has been successful.  We understand that the HCA received bids significantly in excess of the available resources and therefore had some difficult decisions to make"

“We believe that the foyer will play a crucial role in helping young people access training and accommodation inLincolnshire”.

Chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee at West Lindsey District Council, Cllr Malcolm Parish, welcomed the news.

He said:” To secure funding for this development is fantastic news for Gainsborough. This new satellite foyer will compliment the already successful scheme in Market Rasen. It will be a huge benefit to some of the most vulnerable young people, in the town who need help to meet their supported housing needs.”

Over the coming weeks the council will be working with other key partners and local agencies to develop the proposals further and ensure that the project is delivered as effectively as possible.
