More than 15 Leicestershire-based community organisations gathered for a Show and Tell event recently, part of the National Housing Federation’s ‘Supported Housing Month’.
The event celebrated the crucial work of local, not for profit organisations including housing group LHA-ASRA, Foundation Housing Association, Action Homeless, Norton House and Catch 22.
Held at the Voluntary Action Centre inNewarke Road, visitors saw the great work taking place across the city helping tackle issues faced by vulnerable people including homelessness, mental health and domestic violence.
This was the first of such events to be held in the city providing awareness, showcasing the work of the sector, and highlighting how these services are helping to reduce the numbers of homeless people and the cost burden that goes with it.
Kay Kaur-Walters, Senior Services Manager at LHA-ASRA, said: “We successfully engaged with councillors, commissioners, partners and other key decision makers.
It was satisfying to see so many important and life-changing organisations come together all under one roof.
“Many service users were also present. A number took to the stage, offering feedback based on their own experiences. Hearing these first-hand will help us do even more for vulnerable people inLeicester.”
Caroline Ryan, Commissioning and Procurement Manager at Leicester City Council, said: “We heard some really positive comments from service users which highlighted the impact each of these organisations have on people’s lives.”
