Wear Valley locals are being asked to nominate their neighbours for awards which recognise their generous spirit.

For the second year running housing company Dale & Valley Homes is seeking out the area’s best neighbours for its annual awards.

People will have until December 2 to nominate people who do a little bit extra for their community.

Peter Chaffer, chief executive of Dale & Valley Homes, said: “Last year we heard some really moving stories of people who could only live in their own homes because their neighbours were taking such good care of them.

“We were also bowled over by the commitment shown by those who have given everything to their community over the years.

“I know these people are often a bit backward in coming forward, thinking that what they do does not deserve recognition but without them we would have lost something valuable to our communities, and their work should be celebrated.

“I hope many people are moved to nominate someone they know who is doing a valuable job.

“Again we are really please to be working with the local papers who are another vital piece of the jigsaw inWearValley.”

The four categories are open to anyone inWearValleyand people can nominate as many people as they want.

 The categories are:

Good Neighbour of the Year

An individual who has gone the extra mile to help others

Young Neighbour of the Year

A person under the age of 25 years who has gone the extra mile to help others

Getting involved in the Community

An individual who has really got involved in the community

Outstanding contribution to the fight against anti-social behaviour

An individual or organisation that has successfully tackled anti-social behaviour in the community.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, December 2, 2011.
