Wolverhampton Homes has teamed up with Positive Futures, an organisation which supports young people through community activities, to help out a local business.

A group of more than 15 youngsters, local residents and staff from Wolverhampton Homes cleaned up 35 bags of rubbish at Kids Corner, on Showell Circus, Low Hill.

Kids Corner, which sells children and baby clothes, had been blighted by litter which was being dropped through the fence which encloses its back yard.

The team worked for two hours to clear the rubbish, which was all then carefully recycled. The team from Positive Futures also wore special t-shirts to encourage people not to drop litter.

Mark Henderson, Director of Housing at Wolverhampton Homes, said: “This is a fantastic example of local people pulling together to support the community.

“The work carried out will hopefully be of lasting benefit to not just Kids Corner, but all of the young people involved”

Neil Guest, Youth Worker at Positive Futures, said: “It was great to see everyone working together to make the community better and having a good time while doing it. Thank you to everyone who took part.”

Following the clean up event Wolverhampton Homes and Positive Futures are working together to put in place preventative measures to stop the problem reoccurring in the future. Work is also being done to show the damage littering can cause and encourage people to take greater responsibility for keeping their community tidy.
