Sporting Fun for Older People

Residents and staff of Attley Court in Wellingborough have enthusiastically thrown their weight behind the support of this year’s Older People’s Day.

The Housing 21 sheltered housing scheme has commenced a week of activities supporting the theme of getting and staying active in later life.  The celebrations kicked off on Saturday with Whacky Races, using electric scooters and Zimmer frames rather than legs and a potato in the pot instead of an egg and spoon. Residents also held their own version of tossing the caber and triathlon as well as a special ‘hanging out the washing’ race.

Martin Sawers, court manager at Attley Courtsaid: “We were all very excited about the wide variety of activities that we had lined up. This is a very active court anyway but Older People’s Day gives residents the opportunity to really show what an important contribution older people can make to society.”

Attley Court is one of many Housing 21 schemes up and down the country not only celebrating Older People’s Day but also supporting the launch of Housing 21’s own ‘Sports Day’ in association with their Live Active initiative.

Housing 21 invited their courts to put forward their ideas for the day and Attley Court’s impressive week-long programme of activity won them £100.  Other events taking place at Attley Court this week include a talent competition, a quiz night, an indoor tournament of bowling and curling and demonstrations of therapies including chiropody, head massage and aromatherapy.
