Over 60 residents fromPendlebury DriveinLeicestertook part in a skip amnesty day to help prevent fly-tipping and clean up their housing estate.

Social housing group LHA-ASRA put a team of specialists on the ground to give expert advice to residents on the best and most environmentally-friendly way to dispose of large unwanted items.

Residents were leafleted two weeks in advance and invited to bring out unwanted furniture for disposal on the day.

LHA-ASRA service delivery manager Caroline Wagstaff said: “The day was a huge success and we filled two large skips.

“Dumped furniture and white goods have been acting as a magnet for illicit dumpers from outside the area.  This has dented civic pride among those locals who really care about where they live.

“We are planning to make the skip amnesty day a bi-annual event across several of our Leicestershire-based schemes.  Residents atPendlebury Drivecertainly seemed very keen on the idea.”
