Lark Energy Installs PV Panels On Council Office Roof

Lark Energy (www.larkenergy.co.uk), part of the Larkfleet Group (www.larkfleetgroup.co.uk), has installed a 29 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of South Holland District Council’s offices to help the local authority cut its carbon footprint.

 Lark Energy installed a total of 126 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the council headquarters in Spalding,Lincolnshirewhich will produce approximately 24.87MWh of electricity over the course of a year. This will enable the council to save a substantial amount from its electricity bills and significantly reduce its carbon emissions.

The council will also generate income from selling the surplus electricity produced by the PV panels to the National Grid as part of the government’s Feed In Tariff scheme.

Lark Energy managed the project and oversaw the installation which took only three weeks to complete.

The PV panels were manufactured by Hyundai, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of photovoltaic panels, and were supplied by Larkfleet Group company Eco Building Products.

Most of the PV panels were installed on south facing areas on the newest parts of the office building and will provide much of its electricity needs.

South Holland District Councillor Howard Johnson, portfolio holder for the council’s property and assets, said: “We are delighted that the panels have been installed. This is a win-win situation in terms of reducing our carbon emissions and for thecouncil and residents ofSouth Hollandwhere we generate our own electricity.”

 Councillor Roger Gambba-Jones, portfolio holder for carbon management, said: “This is a positive step by the council in reducing the impact on the environment. The installation picks up on the steer given to us by the youth council which wishes to see the district council set an example for the rest of the district to follow.”
