Riversmead Housing Association, a member of Network Housing Group, is giving 16-24 year olds across the East Herts district, who are currently not in education, employment or training, the opportunity to join their new Green Team training scheme and develop work place skills.
Starting in early November 2011, the scheme run in partnership with Groundwork Hertfordshire, will help young people develop skills in landscaping and gain practical on-the-job work experience on projects in the community. Riversmead residents will see the benefit of the young people’s work as they help to improve the environmental landscape around their homes and neighbourhoods.
At the end of the training, participants will achieve a nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification in Land Based Studies, a basic first aid certificate and a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, which will help them get back into employment or further education.
Since 2008, 50 unemployed young people have taken part in the Green Team training scheme of which 94% completed the 16 week course. 96% of these participants achieved the City and Guilds qualification, with 57% gaining distinctions.
Wendy Duncan, Riversmead’s Senior Neighbourhood Officer said: “We chose to team up with Groundwork Hertfordshire and offer this training opportunity to our residents and the wider community who are looking to get back into work or education.
“The Green Team initiative has improved the prospects of many young people in Hertfordshire, giving them the confidence and support they need to move on with their lives. If you think you, or someone you know would benefit from taking part in the Green Team please get in touch.”
