20 young people aged 8 to 14 living in Brinnington took part in three activity days to help brighten up Brinnington for residents in addition to learning new skills and gaining a sense of pride and ownership in their community.

With creative activities including producing a banner using recycled materials to create artwork that conveyed recycling messages (the banner will be displayed at a variety of locations in the community), creating pictures using plants for a local communal garden, painting plant pots and planting ornamental grasses in the newly decorated pots.

Some of the planted works of art were then taken to Cawood care home, which gave Alice Smyth’s something to smile about.

A treat for the group was in store after all their hard work with a trip to Linnet Clough Scout Camp and Activity Centre in Mellor where they all took part in ‘The Cube’, a climbing frame incorporating a ‘leap of faith’, wobbly plank and rope high walks; rifle shooting and pedal karting.

Nicola Green, Customer Involvement Officer for Stockport Homes said: “I’m really proud of all the participants, they worked well together and created a landscaped area in Brinnington for residents to enjoy. We hope to see them again next year.”

Bring it on Brinnington has been running for four years now and is organised by Stockport Homes with involvement from Stockport Council’s Environmental Services, Neighbourhood Management and Youth Offending Teams; Brinnington Educational Achievement Partnership, Stockport Sports Trust and Glendale.
