Despite the weather, a lifeline support service and residential home for adults with learning disabilities opened its doors at the weekend for a day of fun and fundraising.
Sycamore Court in Leicester helps over 40 adults across the county to lead independent lives. The day brought residents, friends, families and local supporters together to celebrate and take a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the centre’s work.
The residential scheme, run by LHA-ASRA housing group, comprises12 self-contained, fully furnished apartments and is currently home to 11 residents.
Sycamore Court also provides day to day care for people living in six purpose-built bungalows located behind the scheme’s garden.
Over 50 people turned out to make the day a success, with a fund raising tombola, face painting, barbecue and cake stall.
Angie Carr, community support officer at Sycamore Court, said: “The open day was a real success and a fun way to demonstrate the variety of good work that goes on here.
“We also offer a community support service, which is proving invaluable to over 30 people in the Melton, Coalville, Narborough and Broughton Astley areas of Leicester.
“Staff visit people at home giving help and support where it’s needed, as well as offering respite for their families. The open day was a positive way to bring people from all areas of our work together.”
