A grant application has resulted in a £9,800 ‘windfall’ for Nottingham based Amity Members Group, a support service for local people with mental health problems.
The Amity Health and Wellbeing Recovery Centre is used by around 60 regular clients. The money will help finance the centre’s programme of weekly social and recreational activities such as art classes, gardening, music, healthy eating and country walks.
Amity provides a range of services to support clients to deal with their mental health conditions such as managing stress and depression, building confidence, financial advice, developing independent living, and access to training and employment.
The application was submitted by the Amity Members’ Group to the National Lottery’s Awards for All scheme.
Chris McDermot, chair of the Amity Members Group, said: “Our social and recreational activities help people who are often isolated make friends and find a new interest.”
Added Yvonne Colebourne, business development manager for LHA-ASRA, the housing group that manages the scheme: “The Awards for All money will help to finance weekly activities for the whole of next year.
“Last year the centre was given some funding which was used to put in some raised beds. A tutor from the local college supported our members to care for the plants and use the vegetables for healthy meal plans.”
