North Wales Housing has appointed Richard Snaith as Sustainability Co-ordinator.

Richard originally joined the organisation on a temporary basis under the Future Jobs Fund, a government initiative offering work based experience and learning for those in long term unemployment. Richard was able to use his existing skills to focus on an environmental role and began to assess sustainable practices and measures across North Wales Housing.

Richard has since been offered an initial 12-month role which will embrace the entire organisation, reviewing and working with NWH staff, tenants and residents associations. Recent initiatives include the introduction of smart metering systems into a number of NWH properties, increasing the range of recycling facilities at NWH offices and delivering information sessions for tenants on how to reduce waste.
A series of ‘Green Events’,  focusing on saving money through saving energy, at several over 55’s schemes proved to be a huge success. Richard said: “These events proved to be a great way of empowering residents by making them aware of small, simple things they can do everyday that will impact positively on their lives. Initiatives such as these are being really well received and people are becoming increasingly aware and responsive to the green message.
“On a personal note, I’m delighted to take on this role – it’s a fantastic opportunity and I’ll look forward to developing and implementing more exciting and incredibly important initiatives as the year develops.”
Paul Diggory, Chief Executive at North Wales Housing added: “Richards’s appointment is a sustainable one on many levels, and we’re really pleased to be able to offer him a full time position with us.
“Alongside our commitment to operating a sustainable organisation, we are committed to supporting our tenants in reducing energy consumption where possible and further encouraging awareness of environmental issues and concerns. I’m sure Richard will help us realise these objectives and continue with the excellent work he has carried out to date.”
