Larkfleet Homes Gives Local Wildlife Trust A Helping Hand

Bourne-based housebuilder and developer Larkfleet Homes, (www.larkfleethomes.co.uk), part of the Larkfleet Group (www.larkfleetgroup.co.uk), is helping the Peterborough Local Group of the Wildlife Trust maintain a nature reserve at Dogsthorpe Star Pit near Eye.
Dogsthorpe Star Pit, covering 84 acres and situated on the north side of the A47 close to Eye, is home to a fantastic array of species including the nationally scarce nightingale.
Peterborough Local Group of the Wildlife Trust is desperately in need of a new water pump to ensure shallows pools on the site remain at optimum levels to encourage rare species to flourish.
Larkfleet Homes is helping it achieve this goal by sponsoring a charity run in Eye, organised by Eye Runners, from which all proceeds will be donated to Peterborough Local Group of the Wildlife Trust.
Larkfleet is donating 200 bottles of beer for the charity event that aims to raise around £600 towards the cost of a new pump for the nature reserve. The beer will help to refresh the volunteer marshalls and organisers – the runners will be drinking water!
Its donation is an investment in the local environment and will help conserve the rare species found at Dogsthorpe Star Pit for current and future residents of Eye and its surrounding areas.
Since the nature reserve was a working brick pit, shallow salty water pools have existed on the site that are now home to over 60 species of water beetle alone.
Larkfleet managing director Karl Hick commented: ‘It is a pleasure to help the Peterborough Local Group of the Wildlife Trust keep this local nature reserve in the best condition. The nature reserve is a local attraction and is visited by many people throughout the year.
“Larkfleet is dedicated to supporting local communities and preserving the local environment and I am sure that the Eye charity run will be a fun way to help raise the funds needed for the new pump. Larkfleet is proud to be involved in this community initiative.”
Larkfleet Homes currently has two, three, four and five-bedroom properties available on its Parsons Prospect development off Thorney Road in Eye. For further information, please call the sales office on 01733 223225 or visit www.larkfleethomes.co.uk.
