Riversmead Housing Association and their partnering contractors have been helping students from The Sele School in Hertford prepare for life after education by organising mock job interviews.
Riversmead, Borras Construction and MC Property Services wanted to share their experiences of the workplace with the students as they prepare to find jobs or go onto further education after the summer.
Brian Peel, Riversmead’s Programme Delivery Manager, Matt Clarke, Managing Director, MC Property Services and Adam Bowden, Managing Director, Borras Construction attended assemblies for the Year 11 students at the school to offer career development guidance, tips on how to write a good CV and advice about ways to prepare for an interview.
Students had the opportunity to experience a complete job application process by applying for mock jobs, completing an application form, submitting a CV and undertaking a 30 minute interview to answer questions about their key skills and strengths and weaknesses.
A feedback session followed each interview where students were praised for their good effort and improvement tips were discussed.
Brian Peel commented: “This was a great opportunity to give something back to the community and use our experience to offer guidance and prepare students for applying for jobs during an extremely competitive period.
“We hope this experience has given the students the confidence to apply for jobs or higher education places. We wish them all ‘good luck’ in their forthcoming GCSE results.”
