Kids can kick their off their shoes to enjoy new soft play equipment, while parents and carers unwind on sofas, at Coniston Community Centre, thanks to funding from Merlin Housing Society.
Big changes have happened at the community centre inPatchwayin recent weeks. A new community café and children’s play area have been opened, as part of the centre’s redevelopment. Local organisations, including Merlin, have pitched in where they can to support the improved community base.
Jennifer Griffiths, Merlin’s Community Investment Manager, said: “When we were approached about paying for the soft play and sofas, we didn’t hesitate – it fits perfectly with our community investment objectives. The centre is a great asset to the area and we’re thrilled to be involved.”
The improvements at the Coniston Community Centre also give local charity, Southern Brooks Community Partnership, a permanent base, and provide a home to more local groups than ever, including a day nursery and youth theatre group.
Southern Brooks Community Partnership’s Director, Julie Close said “We hope this building will become the hub for Coniston, somewhere we can provide activities for people of all ages. Coniston Community Association andPatchwayTown Council, supported by Southern Brooks, have been working together for many years to see this building completed. Through generous support of the town council and the Big Lottery, the building is now open. We’re really grateful for the Merlin funding and already many parents/carers and grandparents are popping into the cafe while the children play safely. “
The new furniture was toasted with champagne and strawberries at the centre’s official launch recently.
