John Bennett recieving the Gold Award at RoSPA awards ceremony in Birmingham
In 2010, Community Gateway Association (CGA) received a Silver RoSPA achievement award
Since then the organisation made a commitment to take it up a level, put itself forward this year and be re-assessed on its Health and Safety performance and standards again in 2011.
We were delighted when the announcement came that we had achieved the RoSPA Gold standard
RoSPA are a registered charity and have been at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world for more than 90 years. More than 13,500 people die as a result of accidents across the UK each year. There are millions of other injuries.
In deciding the achievement award level merited, RoSPA takes account of a range of performance indicators. These include:
- Measure of occupational health and safety management 'input' such as the level of development of systems and culture
- Measures of health and safety management 'output' such as consistent application of risk control measures; and measures of 'outcome' such as reductions in near misses, notifiable injuries, the number of days lost, accident and ill health costs etc.
- Account is also taken of an entrant's enforcement record.
- More attention is paid to other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) than to lost time accident rates due to the limitations often associated with statistical data.
John Bennett CGA Health, Safety & Environmental Manager who received the award in Birmingham said “Achieving the RoSPA Gold Award highlights the importance we place on Health and Safety at CGA.
All employees have an involvement in our H&S strategy e.g. through implementation of team plans, workplace inspections, risk assessments, fire safety checks, training etc. so the Award really is for the whole organisation and a pleasing recognition of our progress to date”.
