Severnside Learning Programme Severnside Learning Programme

A new learning programme has been launched by Severnside Housing, packed full of short courses and training sessions, aimed at developing new skills or building on existing ones.

Severnside’s new Resident Learning Programme offers more than 30 different courses, split into six themed areas: Finances, Safety in the Home, Back to Work, Hobbies, Communities and DIY.

Sessions range from book keeping to photography, from IT to plumbing and from basic first aid to consumer rights. They are open to people of all ages and are free for Severnside residents. Help with transport can be provided where necessary, as can help with childcare. Other people can also enrol, though priority will always be offered to Severnside residents, and charges may apply.

All of the sessions are being delivered by Severnside and partner agencies including Shropshire Council, Marches Energy, Just Credit Union, the Community Council of Shropshire and Husk Training and are being held in various local venues.

Claire Poulson, Community Development Officer at Severnside Housing, said: “This Resident Learning Programme is an exciting new idea for Severnside. We’ve worked with other local organisations to develop a wide range of different courses that offer something for everyone.

“Building new skills or developing existing ones can help people develop their experience and knowledge, and open the door to employment opportunities. It also empowers people with the confidence, knowledge and skills to get involved in their community more effectively.”

A guide to the Severnside Learning Programme, and the courses on offer, is available from Severnside Housing’s Brassey Road offices, or by calling Severnside on 01743 28500 or 0845 234 2424.
