Tenant Peter Dolan was delighted when Pervez Khaliq from WDH explained how he could get cheaper energy bills.
A money saving scheme that compares the prices of all UK energy suppliers to help housing association tenants find the cheapest deal has received the backing of Wakefield and District Housing (WDH).
With the electricity and gas market regulator Ofgem confirming that wholesale energy prices have risen 30 per cent since December, and with further rises predicted this summer, WDH says it’s important for all tenants to check for cheaper suppliers.
Provided in partnership by the National Housing Federation and uSwitch, the My Home Energy Switch website is designed to help tenants save money by comparing gas and electricity prices to make sure they are getting the best possible price.
Between 1 July 2010 and 1 December 2010 people who switched energy supplier with uSwitch.com saved an average of £254, according to My Home Energy Switch.
WDH Debt Manager Craig Wood said: “The cost of energy bills will be on a lot of people’s minds at the moment, especially given the news that there will be increases in the price of gas and electricity.
“Tenants should make full use of this service. We would encourage them to use My Home Energy Switch because it’s an excellent way to save money.”
The scheme gives all housing association tenants in the UK a free, impartial online or telephone comparison service – and it takes just minutes to check as the website does all the legwork for you.
Mr Wood added: “If it’s cheaper to switch, our tenants don’t have anything to worry about. New suppliers will continue to use the same wires, pipes and meters so there will be no disruption.
“Energy suppliers are often changing their prices and tariffs so it’s always a good idea to keep checking. All comparison websites are essential tools that could help you save money.”
