Staff at a Bishop Auckland company raised more than £700 from a fun day to help victims of the East African drought.
Workers from housing company Dale & Valley Homes organised many events to add to their total including a 24 hour fast, a sponsored silence and many sponsored running and walking events.
Housing options assistant Graeme Wade even volunteered to have cat food and other nasty things thrown at him to raise another £70 for the appeal. Other events included a raffle, dress down and a bake day.
Chief Executive Peter Chaffer said: “This cause really inspired people to do something extra special. We have had fundraising days in the past but nothing on this scale.
“Everyone really entered into the spirit of the occasion and some people did some amazing things.
“The total is the highest amount we have ever raised by several hundred pounds, even though we are still waiting for the last few pounds to come in.
“I think everyone really enjoyed themselves as well as collecting a significant amount of money for the appeal. Now we have to think of something different for next time.
“We just hope that the money will be used to make a real difference for some of the victims of this dreadful disaster and we would urge other people to do their bit too.”
