Foodbank referrals can now be made by Wolverhampton Homes
Tenants and residents of Wolverhampton who are in need of food can now be referred to Foodbank by Wolverhampton Homes.
Foodbank is a local Christian charity that provides food for people of all faiths in a time of crisis.
Last year they helped over a thousand people in Wolverhampton by providing food parcels and even nappies for those in need.
Councillor Peter Bilson, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity, said: “The present economic climate means that many families are facing serious challenges with their household budgets.
“With food, fuel and energy prices continuing to increase, the service offered by Foodbank can be vital to those most in need.
“This is a good initiative and Wolverhampton Homes and Foodbank are to be commended for their collaboration and efforts to reduce food poverty in this way.”
Mark Henderson, Director of Housing at Wolverhampton Homes, said: “This service could be a lifeline to our customers.
“As the cost of food and energy increases and some of the poorest people in our society face the reality of benefit cuts, services like Foodbank are going to be needed even more.
“At Wolverhampton Homes we want to do our bit to make sure that our customers and their children do not have to go hungry.”
Anyone who is in severe financial straits and is unable to buy food can be referred to Foodbank in Wolverhampton.
They are asked to contact Wolverhampton Homes, rather than Foodbank directly, for a referral on 01902 556789.
Wolverhampton Homes can also provide financial advice through the Money Smart Team on 01920 556789.
