The Oldham Drive Estate Tenants’ Group and the George Lane Community Social Club held a Big Lunch on Sunday 5June with support from Stockport Homes. Over 30 residents and PCSOs attended the event and were treated to a BBQ, Bring and Buy Sale, Raffle and of course a Big Lunch!

Attendees filled in a comments book, with one comment from Lynne Allman who attended saying “I think it’s been a very enjoyable afternoon. If people look back on the day, it shows that people can really mix and help each other. Lovely day”.

Georgia Bradshaw, Customer Involvement Officer said of the event: “It’s a great opportunity for people on the estate to come together and get to know their neighbours, put names to faces and get to meet people in their area they had never met before. It was also an opportunity for tenants to find out about what was going on at the George Lane Community Centre, as they have recently set up a new committee in order to get more people using it”.

More than £80 was raised by the Oldham Drive Estate Tenants’ Group which will go towards community projects in their area. The first one they’re planning is community allotments. If you would like to come along to the next group meeting at the Arthur Greenwood Centre, please contact Georgia on 0161 474 2638.

The following week The Cherry Tree Estate Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (TRA) held a Big Lunch again with support from Stockport Homes. Over 40 residents and PCSOs attended the event enjoying a Big Lunch, BBQ, bric a brac sale, balloon race and a face painter for the children.

Debbie Williams, Chair of Cherry Tree TRA who organised the event said: “The day was a great success, it was a chance for residents to come together, bridge the gap between young and old and learn from each other - great day out for the children too.”

Councillor Hazel Lees, also attended the Big Lunch and commented: “It was great fun, fantastic issue to run with which was very much appreciated – tested everyone’s abilities in delivering a successful day.”
