An innovative, affordable housing development has been recognised by the London District Surveyors Association with a commendation for design excellence.
Built on a former nursing home in Greenwich by housing and regeneration group, LHA-ASRA, Elmgrove Point was commended in the Best Housing Project More Than 10 Units category at the recent LDSA Building Excellence Awards.
The scheme provides 119 affordable homes for local people, through social rent and intermediate rent. These include four-bed duplexes with private gardens alongside one, two and three-bed apartments with individual balconies.
William Cornall, LHA-ASRA’s group director of development and assets said: “First devised in 2005, the project was always ambitious, encountering a number of challenges along the way that would have seen many similar schemes fall by the wayside.
“We are thrilled to have been commended by the LDSA. Completion was ahead of schedule, and this is testimony to the spirit of co-operation, vision and commitment of the project team to improving housing provision and driving regeneration in the local community.”
Partners on the LHA-ASRA led project include architect Alan Camp Architects, contractor Galliford Try and Silver Development and Construction Consultancy.
