Community Gateway Association colleagues have dug deep in their pockets over the last twelve months raising £1531 for Preston Domestic Violence Services.
Preston Domestic Violence Services is the only organisation which exists solely to support adults and children experiencing (or having experienced) domestic violence.
It is a sad fact; that in the past year over 4000 women and girls aged between 16 and 59 have suffered from Domestic Violence in Preston alone.
Every year a local charity is chosen at the organisations Staff Day and funds are raised via dress down days, the CGA "Tuck" shop and finishes with a special charity event held at the end of the fundraising period.
Traditionally this has been a quiz night and Karaoke, but the CGA charity night team thought they would do something a little different and held a "Night at The Races" and a Mega Raffle which had some fantastic prizes including two Notebook PC's and one of the gadgets of the moment a Kindle.
The event could not have taken place without the generous support of local partners and contractors who were offered the chance to Sponsor a race in return for a small donation.
The race night format was very popular with 7 races including a "Pig" race at the end of the evening followed by traditional a Hot Pot supper, the event itself raised over £400.
Nigel Mawdsley a member of the Charity Night team said: "It has been another fantastic year for the CGA Charity Team. Colleagues have shown their support for this worthwhile cause. In the current financial climate money is scarce, but they have shown that they really care about supporting others who may be suffering and be in a worse position than themselves.
I would also like to thank all of our partners who generously donated prizes for the event. Without this support we could not have raised this fantastic amount."
In 2011/12 CGA will be raising money for Heartbeat http://www.heartbeat-nwcc.org.uk/
